Dangermond starts a Goth band, Saphrax, that plays obscure ancient Germanic folk music. Johnny offers to join the band and is granted a
position on the condition that he learns to play the carnyx; however the only one he can find for sale is through a museum in the Rhineland, priced at 10,000 euros. Johnny
does not join the band.

By this time, Dermy Davies' behaviour is out of control. His creative contributions are increasingly unimaginative and derivative, and he clashes frequently with Johnny.
Fuelled by his rapacious drinking habit, Dermy attempts to bully the other Fisherians into recognising him as their leader. An emergency meeting is called as a result of this drunken coup, and Dermy is put on temporary suspension. He does not take this well.
